Cycle Way 4
The project, which connects Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, Deptford and Greenwich, presented significant challenges in terms of safety, public interface and co-ordination.
C4 is southeast London’s first major protected route, and required the redesign and build of Rotherhithe roundabout, previously one of London’s most dangerous junctions, and a new bus gate on Jamaica Road to improve access.
Requiring extensive traffic management, the scheme involved creating new public spaces, restoring and installing signal-controlled pedestrian crossings, and bus stop layout and location reconfigurations to support new bypasses for cyclists.
