The aim was to introduce new paving & greenery, provide better facilities for walking & cycling, ease pedestrian crossing movements and smooth the traffic flow through the Derby Road junction.

 Phase A incorporated the new block-paved junction at Derby Road and the other key elements south of Queensway.

Phase B followed in 2018, taking forward pedestrian and footway improvements north of Queensway.
